To sell a wholesale product means to sell your product in bulk to someone else, usually at a discounted price, who then sells the product to their customers. The fundamental difference between selling wholesale and selling retail is that you are likely selling to another business, instead of an individual. Wholesale customers do not intend to enjoy the products themselves. Instead, they are focused on the amount of revenue that they can generate from selling your product. A wholesaler is usually the manufacturer or creator of the product, but it is not a requirement for selling a wholesale product. A good pricing strategy is a crucial component of any successful wholesale business. Selling in bulk usually means that wholesalers can sell their products at a lower price than if they were to sell retail. Selling products at retail prices means that you get to keep whatever profit margin you set for yourself, which is often more than 50%. However, this is not the case with wholesale products. Wholesalers typically apply a 50% discount off the retail price for wholesale customers. This is because wholesale customers need to resell the product for a profit as well. At the same time, the wholesaler can’t afford to apply too much of a discount, otherwise they won’t have a high enough profit margin to make selling wholesale worthwhile. For a wholesale business to be successful, it needs to offer a big enough discount so that wholesale customers are attracted to reselling the product, while still making enough profit for itself. It is all one big balancing act that requires carefully calculated prices! Here are some of the benefits of selling wholesale:

  • You can increase your sales, without increasing marketing costs.
  • You can sell your products in bulk, usually for a minimum quantity.
  • You can rely on other brands’ audiences to sell your product.
  • You can create a consistent source of income.
  • You can enter new markets with less risk.

Wholesale opportunities will vary depending on the type of industry you operate in and the kind of products you sell, but if it is something that interests you, you should definitely look into it! Wholesale prices are only displayed to wholesale customers, not all customers. To apply to become a wholesale customer, you need to visit the ↗ Customer dashboard and click the Become a Wholesale Customer button. However, this button is not displayed for Vendors. Instead of the wholesale customer button, Vendors will see a button to go to their Vendor dashboard. This is because you cannot be a Vendor and a wholesale customer using the same account – you need to create two different accounts if you would like to be both a Vendor and a wholesale customer.
