Why would I rent?

In addition to all of the great benefits of selling on, customers might think rentals are advantageous because:

  • They don’t have to pay the full cost of the product up front.
  • It might give them access to a higher standard of equipment, which they might not be able to afford to buy.
  • They probably won’t have to worry about product maintenance, depending on the nature of the product and the terms.
  • They are unlikely to be at fault if the equipment breaks down, depending on the nature of the product and the terms.
  • They can decide when to stop renting the item whenever it is convenient for them.

Vendors might think rentals are advantageous because:

  • You can create an income by leveraging assets that you already have. While you might need to dedicate some time into managing orders, there aren’t many expenses involved if you already have the products that you would like to rent.
  • You can make money from things you already have that aren’t being used.
  • You can offset the cost of buying the product when you make money renting it out.
  • You can rent just about anything you can think of – there are lots of business opportunities!
  • You can help others by giving them a chance to rent something that they might not be able to afford otherwise.

For these reasons and more, it might be worth your while to consider renting some of your products, depending on the nature of your business. The rental market is expanding. We used to think of rentals as houses or transportation, but it has expanded beyond the housing and transportation industries into the clothing, lifestyle, accessory industries too! In addition to renting a house or a car, customers are interested in renting handbags, watches, necklaces or even decor for the fraction of the price of what they would have to pay for the product in full. This makes for a great business opportunity!

Before listing your product in the Rental category, think carefully about where it would fit in. Browse through all of the subcategories to ensure that the Rental module is the best fit for your product. This will give it the highest chance of success.
