Delivery dates (estimated) and charges.

As a customer, knowing when you can expect a delivery is very important. This is why it is good practice to show an estimated time frame on all product listings. The Processing Time shown on your product listings should include the time it takes you to pack and ship items (your handling time), as well as the time it takes for your courier service to deliver. Add these two times together to determine your processing time, so that customers have a good estimate of their delivery date. You can set a ↓ global processing time, an ↓ individual product’s processing time, as well as set ↓ various shipping charges for different processing times.

Global processing time

To set your store’s global processing time, click the Click here to add shipping policies button at the top of your ↗ Shipping settings tab in your Vendor dashboard, then select the appropriate length of time from the drop-down menu and click Save settings.

Individual product processing time

You can also set the processing time of an individual product, which is useful if a product has a longer, or shorter, processing time than usual. Enabling this option is a little bit more tricky, as it involves using the previous shipping system (which you can read more about here), but here’s how to do it: Step One: Enable the previous shipping system settings

  1. Log into your ↗ Vendor dashboard.
  2. Click the Settings tab on the left menu.
  3. Then click the Shipping tab.
  4. Click the link at the top of the page where it says “If you want to use the previous shipping system then Click Here”.

Note: The previous shipping system settings will override the new shipping system settings mentioned above. Any setting you update (such as the shipping policy) on the previous system will be copied to the new system.

Tip: You can also use these previous shipping system settings to alter your default shipping cost for an individual product. Read this article for more info on the previous shipping system.

Various shipping charges

You could charge different shipping rates for different processing times. For example, you could offer free shipping with a processing time of 2 – 3 weeks, as well as expedited shipping for a flat fee with a delivery time of 1 – 2 days. Free shipping will attract customers, and expedited shipping will generate additional revenue. This allows you to balance your revenue needs with promotional opportunities, while providing the customer with various options. All you would need to do is configure the product’s shipping class and the different shipping methods. Learn more here.

Tip: Selecting a faster shipping method will not alter the processing time displayed on the product page for customers. Be sure to explain the different methods and charges in the product description and shipping policy!
